Planning and construction of buildings are based on a complex chain of processes. These processes generate vast amounts of data that can be used for project control, reporting and analysis purposes. BIM production systems were specially designed as web-based project management systems aimed at controlling and evaluating data relating to building and infrastructure construction in order to control their realization and operation more efficiently.
BIM-based production systems use hand-held devices to collect data in a structured manner. Those involved in the project are granted access to data created at different locations. This helps to reduce duplication and multiple entries. Digital data is embedded in processes / work flows and provided to different user group, such as management or site managers, for evaluation and use. The production systems support simple visualization and analysis of data on the basis of a 3D computer model.
The BIM Manager ensures that the advantages of integrated data management are available for use. He provides BIM support to the project on site. He defines and implements processes and coordinates all activities related to the 3D model. In addition, he ensures quality and up-to-dateness of data and trains staff on site.
